Pic de l'Estelle: The Route

IMG_0836.jpg

Pic de l'Estelle is a must-do for anyone seeking magical panoramic views without hiking for miles. This short walk gives families with children the chance to experience nature at its best, and its proximity to La Taillede means it's an easy morning or afternoon out. This popular peak is just above the Refuge de Batère, where there is space to leave your car.

The start point: Refuge de Batère, Lieu-dit les Mines de Batère, 66150 CORSAVY

Even the drive up gives breath-taking views as you look back down into the valley.

Once you've parked your car, head up the windy road past the old house until you arrive at an opening. On your left you'll see the peak directly above a small outbuilding and you can either follow the small path or head straight up.

The cows can be quite sociable!

Take some time at the top to soak up the 360° views and you'll spot the Mediterranean Sea as well as other mountains and towns.

Ascent: 300m, 1hr approx

Descent: 45mins approx

Afterwards, why not stop for a delicious & hearty mountain-style lunch at 1470m altitude with friendly service and magnificent views from the terrace at the  Refuge de Batere before making your way back down to us.

You could also stop in at our neighbours at La Cazette on the way back to La Taillede to buy some very good local sheeps cheese. They have a large selection of hard cheese (tome), soft (pate molle), as well as ricotta, feta and yoghurts. All highly recommended and made by the family on the farm.
