This lovely little cabin is where our ‘team’ stay, over the summer and sometimes in the Spring and Autumn too. .
For those who don't know what a 'workawayer' is, it is basically a website that allows people like us with properties like this to meet people who want to come and be part of it with us. They are our guests, we provide them with somewhere to stay and we feed them for a few weeks to a few months. In return they help us for a few hours each working day (normally 5 mornings per week and 2 days off) with whichever job they are willing to tackle; from general domestics & animal care to forestry, fencing and planting vegetables.
It's a lovely way for us to get to know interesting people and to get much needed help without it breaking the bank, and for our helpers to learn new skills, practice their English and stay at La Taillede for free!
So, back to the cabin; It is an old mobile home, which has been at La Taillede way before we were; but it needed a lot of TLC to make it habitable. The terrace, loo & shower was all built out of our own wood. It has been slowly improved over the years by our practical helpers who have stayed there.
We usually host a couple because that is how the accommodation is set up; and 2 people is more fun for them (for days off etc) than someone by him or herself.
With the pool just next door and mountain views, it’s really a nice place to be!
Matt built a dry compost loo and it has a great shower with it's brand new (2021) electric heater & great pressure; and there is a wood burning stove too for the cooler evenings.
